Family Counselling in Milton Keynes

Nobody has to be persuaded first+In practice since 2013

For families where the same conversation keeps going in circles, and nobody can remember who started it.

Family work does not require everyone in the room, and it does not require everyone to agree that there is a problem.

What Sits Under This

Family conflict that has settled in. Not one row, but a pattern. The same subject, the same positions, the same ending. Usually everyone involved is fairly sure they already know what the other people are going to say, which is exactly why nobody is listening by the time it starts.

Parents and teenagers. Often the most useful work here is not with the teenager. Sometimes it is, sometimes it is with the parents, and sometimes it is with both separately before anyone sits down together. Ask me and I will tell you honestly which I think it is rather than booking whoever you offer me. Where the question is about parenting itself rather than a conflict, that is parent coaching.

Step-families and blended families. Two histories, two sets of assumptions nobody wrote down, and children who did not choose any of it. Most of the friction comes from expectations that were never said out loud, which is a fixable problem once it is named.

Where the difficulty is really between two adults rather than across the family, couples therapy is the better room, and it is a different room. Either can involve one person or several, and if you are the only one willing to come, relationship counselling on your own is a real option rather than a consolation prize.

What Family Work Actually Looks Like

Nothing is arbitrated. I am not there to decide who is right, and a family session where somebody wins is a session that has gone wrong.

What usually helps first is slowing everything down enough that people hear what was actually said rather than the version they were braced for. That sounds modest. It is the part that does the work, and most families have not managed it unaided in a long time.

Expectations get named. Not much of family life gets agreed explicitly, so people end up let down by rules nobody ever stated, then resentful about it, then arguing about something else entirely.

Where, and Who Comes

In person in Wolverton, easily reached from Stony Stratford, Newport Pagnell, Bletchley and Woburn Sands, or online, which can be simpler when family members are not all in Milton Keynes any more.

You do not need to arrive with everyone signed up. Come on your own first if that is what is realistic. You can read what happens in a first session before deciding anything.

You Do Not Have to Bring Anyone Yet

Send me a message describing what keeps happening. One person getting in touch is how most family work starts, and nobody else needs to know you have done it.

If you decide to go ahead, the first full session is half price.
